Cosplay Prop Progress - Nico Yazawa Microphone

I wanted to make a prop to go with my Nico cosplay, so the obvious choice was her cat microphone from the second season! It doesn't look exactly perfect, but it's a neat little prop that will be good for photos~

I didn't take as many photos of the beginning process as I would have liked, so I'll try and explain as I go along. I started with a toilet roll tube and a polystyrene ball, I cut the tube up the side and taped it back together making it tapered towards the bottom. I then taped the ball on top to keep it in place.
I then made ears out of tin foil by making triangle-ball shapes and indenting the middle using my fingernails, it took a while to get the size and shape I wanted, but then I taped them onto the ball. I then covered the whole thing in masking tape. I also added arms and a tail with rolled up tin foil covered in masking tape and taped in place.
Then it was time for paper mache! I mixed PVA glue and water and pasted torn up newspaper onto it. I did about 2-3 layers, until it felt hard and sturdy enough.
You can see the tail from this angle.
Once it was ready I began to paint. I painted areas that were going to be a light colour in white first so the paint would stand out. I also painted the black.
First coat of pink for the base, I changed the colour a lot to get it to look right.
Ear and arm colour, I then painted the black again to neaten it up.
I then painted the face and the mic was complete! Not too neat, but it'll do for photos!

Making My Polymer Clay Doll

I've been interested in BJDs (ball jointed dolls) for a while now, but have yet to buy one as they are really expensive (my Pullip doesn't count, I'm talking about dolls like these) I've been doing research on how to make my own BJD from clay, and because they look fairly complicated, I decided to start with a simplified version.

I started by drawing out some designs, as I knew it would be hard to sculpt a figure without a reference. As I drew I looked at other pictures of dolls online for a guide.
This is the final design I went with for my doll.
I bought a load of beige Super Sculpey from ebay as I needed a lot of skin colour for my dolls. I didn't use a lot for my first one, but if I want to make a bigger BJD I'll need a lot xD
I didn't take many progress shots or filmed me making her, because I didn't know how she would turn out, or if she would be any good at all. After I managed a good looking head and torso, I was excited to continue. I forgot to do her ears however, although they will be covered by her hair.
The hands were one of the hardest parts of making her, and at one point I made two left hands by accident! They still don't look perfect and feel kind of fragile, but I like them.
The feet were also really hard to make. I used a needle tool to define the toes.
You can see here the set up for her body. For the joints, instead of being ball jointed, I added gold eyepins to each joint, and after baking, opened up the eyepins to attach them together.
And this is how she turned out! Since she's not ball jointed or strung up with elastic like BJDs, she moves more like a rag doll, and can't hold a pose or sit down or anything. But I still like how she turned out.
I found that Monster High skirts fit her well, but I can't get the tops to go over her hands. I'll have to try my hand at making her some clothes. I also need to give her a face and hair, but I'll do that in time.
I hope you enjoyed this post, I'll be sure to do others when I give her a faceup, or any updates with making dolls!

Today's blog post is a sponsored review for The Fashion Filth! The shop owner is very sweet, and she also makes hair bows and shorts, which I also love :3

Getting ready for ONECon!

Sorry I haven't been posting here in forever, I'd like to update more but I never get the time > <

I've been wanting to sell at an anime convention for a while now, so when I heard about ONECon, I decided I would try and take my shop along and get a dealer's table :3

So lately I've been making charms and necklaces and things like crazy because I'm worried I won't have enough to sell over the whole weekend xD
Just a small amount of the things I've been making xD

I also bought these jewellery trees from ebay so I could display my charms and necklaces in a cute way ^^

And this is what charms look like clipped to the white one :3 It's a little full here, I've taken most of the doubles off and I'm keeping it looking neater so people can actually see the charms xD

I also went and printed off photos of my decoden phone cases to put in a portfolio, so that people can see what I've made and order custom cases in person (which I'll ship out after the convention)
I really like how the portfolio looks so far, I'm going to get photos of my supplies so people can request certain things too :D

The convention is on 24th and 25th of August, so I have lots of time to prepare for it, so I'm hoping I'll have enough made by then! I have a growing list of charms to make, and I want to make at least 3 of each one so I know I'll have enough of those, not to mention the amount of resin necklaces I want to make, and decoden phone cases! I've been making things nearly every day, so I'm hoping to keep it up and have enough to sell!
And if anyone is going to ONECon by any chance, I hope to see you there!
I'll be most likely wearing my new galaxy seifuku :D It's so pretty!
Anyway, thanks for reading, I'll hopefully be able to post more often!
